Fall is here and we’re couldn’t be more excited!

The air is crisp, the leaves are changing colors, and pumpkin spice is slowly seeping its way into every possible food. Soon it’ll be getting darker faster and the prices on Halloween candy will be uncontrollably tempting.

It may seem like Autumn is all around, from decorations to fashion to even food! With a new season, a plethora of new veggies, fruits, and spices get added to the taste palette, regardless of the type of food. That’s why today we’re going to be talking about some delicious autumnal additions to add to your burgers and other classic American dishes.

Apples & Pears

These delicious fruits are fall favorites, for sure! Not to mention all the delicious and innovative uses for them, whether you’re looking for a dessert, a side, or hors d’oeuvres, these fruits will add a subtle sweetness. Here are some of our favorite ways to eat these juicy fruits:

  • Baked apples (stuffed for extra deliciousness!!!)
  • Blue cheese + pears
  • Pear upside down cake!
  • Pears + parsnips
  • Warmed apples with brown sugar + cinnamon
  • Sweet potato + apple soup
  • Baked apples w/ fennel
  • Poached pears in a syrup
  • Compotes
  • Apples paired with pork is always a winning combination
  • Apple cider (we can’t forget that!)

Of course, these fruits also pair nicely with burgers! Whether you’re looking for an All-American meal of a cheeseburger and apple pie or something more savory like stuffing those pears and blue cheese into a patty, you can’t ever go wrong with a stuffed burger.

Sweet Potatoes

It’s fall, put those white potatoes away! It’s the rise of the sweet potato and we’re ready. These bright orange or even purple tubers are filling, tasty, and easily spiced. They can be smashed down into a patty, cut into fries, or even boiled down into a base for soup.


Do your happiest dance because figs are in season!!! Try eating them as a sweet afternoon snack or glaze and bake them for a unique, one-of-a-kind dessert. Not sure how to know if a fig is ripe? Figs should be slightly soft to the touch, brown or deep purple, and roughly the size of your palm. One of our favorite fall flavor additions is a fig compote with our burgers!


It truly doesn’t matter what kind of squash you want to cook with — Butternut, Kabocha, Acorn, Spaghetti, etc — so long as they’re cooked properly, they’re all delicious! Here are some of the best, people-pleasing squash dishes:

  • Squash gratin
  • Roasted w/ veggies + cheeses (savory)
  • Roasted w/ brown sugar, butter, + cinnamon (sweet)
  • Roasted w/ balsamic glaze (sweet and savory)
  • Spaghetti squash makes a great noodle for any pasta dish
  • Many squashes make a delicious stew addition
  • Mash

Chop ‘em up and stuff ‘em in a burger for taste you won’t forget.


Who knew fungus could be so delicious?! Not only can you replace a burger patty with a large portobello mushroom, but there’s lots of other great uses for them! For example, in preparation for cold weather and flu season, build up your immunity with Shiitake, Maitake, Lion’s Mane mushrooms. They’re great in a soup, sliced up in a salad, stuffed in a burger, roasted with garlic and paprika!


Cousin to the squash, pumpkins can be anything from the meat of the dish to an accessory spice. Pumpkin seems like an obvious one, but it’s still important when talking about fall foods nonetheless! Plus, unlike squash, pumpkin has really expanded into all realms from soup to seed snacks to beer to a dessert bread.
